Pajani Mardamootoo – Machine Learning Impact PhD- Holobody: Advancing the future of mixed reality technologies

This presentation will introduce my PhD research project, ‘Volumetric Interaction’ (VI), a novel approach to human-virtual object interaction in VR that leverages body volumetric tracking. I will begin by outlining the limitations of current VR interaction methods and demonstrating the potential of VI to enhance embodiment and create more intuitive experiences. I will then detail my approach, progress to date. Finally, I will discuss my planned future improvement, and how these advancements will contribute to the broader field of Embodied XR.

Pajani Mardamootoo is a PhD researcher in the School of Social Sciences, Media, Film and Education completed his Confirmation of Candidature in May 2024. Pajani embarked on a journey from mechatronics engineering to data science, driven by a passion for Artificial intelligence’s transformative potential. With expertise in robotics, big data, and machine learning, Pajani has honed his skills in several academic and industry-based projects delving into data analytics to machine learning modelling and deployment. Recognizing AI’s capacity to revolutionize industries, he is currently working on an innovative project merging computer vision and machine learning towards establishing a new form of Mixed Reality interaction named ‘Volumetric Interaction’.
